“The # 1 Title is Now Officially Disputed”

My, our last romp was pretty dismal, wasn’t it? However, one says that you can’t find your true self until you’ve lost everything. At this point in the season, it felt that the team was at an all-time low. Bitterness, anger, resentment, and this was all directed at each other. So what does one do next? Why they play the number 1 ranked team in the division of course!
So on a fateful March 6, 2005, DSBH took on the top of the ladder, Fury.
However, this was not the same Fury team that had dominated the division. It was a much more handicapped franchise. Missing was their top scorer and franchise player. This was due to the fact that he had earned himself a game misconduct that resulted him in having to sit out a game. A game that the league decided to be against us, the then #3 team. Furthermore, I guess that they judged us from our previous bad string of games and our previous encounter and concluded that this was a throwaway game for them. Hence, the put their back-up goalie in between the pipes.
The stage was set, with a peanut gallery to boot. For as you see, Fairview Auto was in attendance. Since the outcome affected their ranking as well, a Fury defeat would and could bring them close to and perhaps overtake Fury for #1.
From the get go, one could sense a magic in the air. Fury was still receiving scoring chances. However, without their star, they seemed chaotic and disorganized. With the absence of their “go-to-guy”, Fury had no real player to fill the void. They all tried, but, this resulted in sloppy and greedy play.
As for DSBH, they had their game plan. A simple plan. Control the ball and the flow of the game. And when the opportunity arises, take the shot. And that was it. We played DSBH soccer while the Fury scrambled to adapt to our system.
Furthermore, with our solid midfield play in conjunction with our aggressive defense, Fury’s scoring opportunities decreased as the game progressed. Add into the mix that we have by far the best goalie in the league while Fury had their back-up in net, there was no comparison whatsoever.
To the chagrin of Fury and to the delight of Fairview Auto, the final outcome was,
FC DSBH 3 – Fury 0
That’s right. Goose egg baby!
Unfortunately, we lost Dom, again. For the season, again. How? This time around it was one of our old high school chum, Wilfredo, who took him out. Yay friends.
Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .
