An Interlude of Cup Play.

Every year, the teams of the RSSL compete for 2 league cups. One being the League Cup, where all teams of all divisions are entered into a single elimination tournament. The other being the one held after the regular season, where teams must earn their way into play-offs. This particular game involves the former of the two.

Our opponents this year were the Players United. A middle of the pack Premier team. A team that possessed many players serving game suspensions for misconduct. Many of whom would be eligible just in time for this game.

First Round of League Cup Competition 2005-2006

FC DSBH

versus

Players United

Like games of old in Division 2, the pace was fast and the physicality was gritty. We fought valiantly. However, due to previous injuries, players not eligible due to late registration, as well as further injuries sustained during the game itself, DSBH fielded a skeleton crew. The combination of all those factors put what should have been an attainable victory to slip through our grasp. Narrowly ending with,

FC DSBH-2

Players United-3

Among the fallen were Dom. He was pulled out of the game with an upper-leg injury. Also,
Jason will probably be sidelined for at least a month with a “knee tweak”.
(Brian)

However, this much needed Thanksgiving season hiatus will provide our aching numbers to hopefully recover in time for Fury.

Down with the kings.

So, after a deserved bye week for good ol' DSBH last week, the club met a daunting task upon their return. The Athletics. Nothing special you know. They were only the kings of Division 1 last season and they opted to stay in Division 1. Let's kick it off shall we?

Week 3: September 25th, 2005 11am @ Palmer #1

FC DSBH versus Athletics

Much like before, we faced a team that greatly underestimated us. What did they have to lose? We were only ranked #3 from Division 2. Oh how wrong they would be. Again, we played up to their level. But don't let my nonsensical musings be your only source. Thanks to Brian, we have game stats! Not to mention charts! So Brian take it away.

Gee Wally, I guess we're in Division 1 huh?

After much trial and tribulation, not too mention administrative loop holes, DSBH is now in Division 1. As the D-Boys of Dogtown make their debut, who better to unwelcome us with laced-up boots other than the team that ended our previous season. That is correct, we were off to duke it out on the pitch with them Flying Beavers.

Week 1, at high noon of September 11th, 2005, FC DSBH would defend their home pitch of Mitchell Elementary against those dastardly Flying Beavers. Both futbol clubs would collide as hard as . . . wait a minute . . . what day is this? Ohhh . . . too soon. To soon and wrong day for me to go there comedically.

Anyway, this season opening rematch would open our eyes to our new situation. While we were in a division of elevated skill level, we found ourselves transitioning rather smoothly. Being the chameleons that we are, DSBH played up to Flying Beavers level. The involvement in a summer league, as well as summer conditioning, kept us in "mid-season condition". All these factors aided us in not only helping us beleive we could beat our opponent, but, to beleive we should win.

After 90 somewhat odd minutes of play, the #4 ranked team of Division 1 last season, the same team that eliminated us from the play-offs were left dumbfounded. They expected an easy win. However, that was not to be.

Yay Misfits!

"Turn to face the strange. Ch-ch-changes."

Apparently there have been a few changes to the destiny of this organization during the off-season. First off, DSBH will be returning to the RSSL. However, instead of reurning to wreak havoc on Division 2, we have been given a new home. A place to victimize foes, both new and old. We have been promoted to Division 1.

From what I could piece together the following occurred:

- The top 2 teams from each division receives a promotion to the higher division.
- Fury and Fairview AUTO were #1 & #2. DSBH was #3.
- Fairview AUTO some how dissolved during the off-season.
- The top 2 teams from each division receives a promotion to the higher division.
- With the nonexistense of Fairview AUTO, there was a void in system.
- In order to fill this void, DSBH fulfilled this requirement.
- The top 2 teams from each division receives a promotion to the higher division.
- Hence, the top 2 teams Fury & DSBH receive a promotion to Division 1.

So yeah, we are in Division 1 now.

On other news, it also appears we have become associated with a female futbol club. Themselves a burgeoning squad of misfits. How apt for their club to be dubbed the Vancouver Misfits. Dan helps in fine tuning the fundamentals of their game. Dom is the taskmaster in charge of conditioning. Brian and Jason assist in dealing the administrative rings of fire they have to endure. As for me? I show up with Gatorade whenever I can.

They currently reside within the Graduate Division B of the Metro Womens Soccer League. Watching their rise reminds me of the early days of DSBH in the RSSL. It will be a rocky experience, but, I am sure they will trudge along to dominance in time.

Yay Misfits!

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .

Summer Soccer part 3

Throughout this summer season of soccer we had gained new faces, welcomed returning friends, and lost comrades. In the end it came down to two teams. On one side, FC DSBH. The other, Vietnam United. Both were experienced teams. Each belonging to another competative winter league. This was the Quickening and there can only be one.

So on a sunny Sunday afternoon over at South Arm in Richmond, these two titans would clash one final time. This battle would test each squad to their limits. Who would succeed? Who would succumb? It all came down to a ball and a pitch.

After a hard fought game, Vietnam United emerged as the victors. Kudos to them.

Although, being on top of the ladder would have been desired, we can now focus upon the upcoming winter season of Division 2 RSSL.

Summer Soccer

This marks a new era for FC DSBH. With the previous season's exposure to success, the team decided to join/form a summer league. The reason for this was to keep everyone together. Fine tune this behemoth we have created.

Long gone are those Sunday pick-up games where an invite to "our game" was akin to joining a secret society. We've decided that mediocrity just doesn't cut it anymore.

So what are we aiming to achieve?

- Keep our players accustomed to playing with each other.
- Keep our players accustomed to playing a high level of competitive soccer.
- Keep our players in shape and too improve conditioning for the winter season.
- Provide a proper venue to introduce new players to the team and its system.

Good heavens! When did this thing become all legit?

Gee Wally, I guess that's our season huh?

After doing away with our last victims, FC DSBH would jump into the 1st Round. So on a wet noon on Sunday, March 20th, 2005 at McMath field the hard luck boys of FC DSBH would face the Flying Beavers. A team that finished 4th in Division 1.

At first, the game was close. We seemed to be evenly matched with them. Heck, we were tied for a good part of the game. However, as the game progressed, the Flying Beavers began to pull away. Despite that, it always felt as if FC DSBH was on the verge of coming back and taking over.

In the end,

Flying Beaver-3

FC DSBH-1

With the season at an end, let's review how the season went. FC DSBH finished 3rd in the RSSL Division 2. Our team record went the following,

18 - Games Played
11 - Wins
4 - Ties
3 - Losses
42 - Goals For
25 - Goals Against
37 - Points

As for individual honours, Andrew Fleming, in his brief half season with FC DSBH, earned 14 goals. A feat that placed him 6th on Division 2's "Scorer's Chart". Based upon this, he could have easily finished within the top 2 if he played from the start of the season. In addition, he was also represented Division 2 at the Annual RSSL All-Star game, as well as being voted FC DSBH's Team MVP.

On the other end of the spectrum, both of our goalies finished within the top 10 among the Division 2 goalkeepers.

#5 Jon Ho
0.5 - Games Played
0.5 - Wins
0 - Goals Against
0.000 - G.A.A.
0.5 - Clean Sheets

#6 Daniel Lazar
16.5 - Games Played
10.5 - Wins
23 - Goals Against
1.393 - G.A.A.
4.5 - Clean Sheets

Furthermore, Dan would also represent Division 2 at the All-Star game. Afterwards, he would be recognized officially by the league as the top goalkeeper of all of Division 2.

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .

Yay, earning our way into the Play-Offs.

Failing to earn promotion just days prior, FC DSBH had a mad hate on. They needed unleash this stored aggression on someone. Anyone. So what does the league do? Well they set up a game of course. Being that our end of the year ranking for Division was 3rd place, we now had to earn our right to the play-offs via a preliminary round.

Division 1 and 2 Play-Offs: Preliminary Round

On a cold crisp Tuesday evening March 15th, 2005 at Minoru Turf, the #3 FC DSBH would unleash the beast on the #10 Vancouver Firefighters. As the clock struck 9pm, the whistle blew. The onslaught had begun. Our opponents fought valiantly. However, as much as they yearned for a different outcome, the hounds had come to play. After much mayhem and bloodshed the FC DSBH earned their right to play another game.

FC DSBH 4 - 2 Vancouver Firefighters

Apparently, today was not a good day to die.

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .

Damn Jesus and his super powers!

Well everything has led to this point. Last game of the regular season. If you have been keeping up to date and have been reading my chronicles of this infamous brood of a futbol squad, then you would know the following:

a) We just beat the #1 team that had run wild over Division 2

b) We have beaten the only other team that has beaten the team mentioned above. Twice.

c) The race for #1-hood is fairly close between the three of us.

d) The top two teams in the division get promoted to Division 1.

So where does this leave us now? Well based upon our outcome (and upon the outcome of Fury's game) we could move up or stay. Basically, if Fury does anything but win and we WIN, then there would have to be a game of sorts to determine the top 2 spots and who would stay or go now.

Hence, on March 13th, 2005 FC DSBH would play for the game of there very survival against Our Lord & Saviour and his Squad of Sandwich Slingers (Subway).

The game itself was a constant battle for our team to gain dominance. It just seemed as if we played down to the opposing team's level of play. Which is unfortunate, as FC DSBH should really play their high calibre soccer and leave the others in the dust. That being the case, we just flailed away for the entirety of the game. Dan did his best to keep us in the game, but, there is only so much he could do. Andy and the D-Boys from Dogtown gave their all. However, the lord built the world in six days and decided to play futbol on the seventh. In the end,

Home Div Home Team H - A Away Team
Division Two Subway 2 - 2 FC DSBH

In conjunction with Fury's victory over Strikers (which I still claim to be one of the dirtiest games I've ever seen. It was reminiscent of the 1970s era Philadelphia Flyers bad), FC DSBH would stay behind and make Division 2 pay for not receiving the promotion to Division 1.

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .
