The Battle of the Boyd.

Hello fans, Big Schwa . . . err . . . sorry wrong show. Welcome back to another installment of the 2004-2005 DSBH Season. This here segment focuses upon the mirth and merriment that occurred when FINALLY . . . Die Skorbut Boser Hund . . . has come back . . . to Hugh Boyd Secondary!!!

February 6, 2005 - FC DSBH versus Haywood Hawks

Coming off a 5-0 blowout the week before, DSBH was running on high octane. Things were falling in place. But could this be a case of over confidence after their string of success? As for the Hawks, they reside in a spot we once held in previous seasons, middle of the pack. They consist of some solid players that run the gamut both age-wise and skill-wise. Aside from the infighting on the pitch, they were still able to hold us at bay on Halloween with 1-1 tie.

The weather that day was abysmal. With sporadic downpour, gale-force winds, and freezing winds, the saving grace that day was the condition of the field. It was actually quite solid, if not a little water-logged. Other than that, it was decent. In contrast to the previous field, it was a godsend. The combination of the elements and the level of play that the Hawks brought contributed for another battle of attrition. DSBH possessed the ball for the majority of the game. However, goals were hard to come by. While there were many misplaced shots, the Hawks' goalie worked his ass off to keep the score close and made some spectacular saves. Eventually, the DSBH offensive attack bore results. Namely, Andrew's continued scoring streak. He added 2 towards his season tally of 12 goals. A feat that reseeds him at 4th place among the scoring leaders of the RSSL 2nd Division. Not to be outdone, Dom knocks one in himself. I believe he had to dribble past half their players to do so as well.

Defensively, good ol' DSBH just wasn't itself for some reason. I don't know if it was the weather, season associative disorder, or maybe distraction from Super Bowl fever. Anyway, despite the medically cleared return of C-Nut and Gat's second game back on the mainland, the Hawks were able drive the ball into our end for scoring opportunities. The aftermath being the successful conversion of two goals. One via a defensive communication breakdown. Another via a wicked high shot that narrowly got passed Dan. These two goals ended Dan's 2 game shutout streak. However, DSBH were able to protect the lead. Cementing Dan's ranking of 5th place among the division goalkeepers. One spot directly under Noel. In addition to Dan, Jon makes his debut on the board at 6th place due to his whopping 0.00 G.A.A.

With the conclusion of the game, the score was left at,

FC DSBH - 3

Haywood Hawks - 2

Due to some recent events, there has been a slight shift in the rankings of our division. As stated before, the race for top of the ladder is quite close. In conjunction to DSBH's current winning streak, the following has occurred:

- Lives United defeated Fairview Auto 5-3

I don't know how to explain this. If I were to speculate, I'd propose that this result was due to Fairview Auto not being prepared mentally and physically after the long winter break. In addition, Lives United has been practicing really hard over the break. Having played 2 friendlies against DSBH, Live United has brought in a soccer instructor/drill sergeant of sorts to help instill the basic skills necessary for competitive soccer. Whether this is true or not, it's nice to see Lives United to play to their potential.

- Subway defeated Fury 1-0

I really can't account for this. Unless Fury forfeited the game, I suppose Subway gave it to Fury pretty hard. Man that last sentence just sounds sooooooo wrong.

Anyway, due to these variables the ranking is as follows,

1) Fury
2) FC DSBH
3) Fairview Auto

That's right "we're movin' on up!"

So until February 13, 2005 when DSBH faces the Rangers . . .

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .

"He's on fire!"

Greetings all and welcome to the second half of the RSSL 2nd Division season. Albeit a week behind since our Subway game was rescheduled for a later date due to city-wide field closures. So Happy New Year and let the games begin.

January 30, 2005 - FC DSBH versus Vancouver Firefighters

In this corner, adorned in white decorated with a flaming dog's head, FC DSBH. At the time, ranked third in the standings. At its disposal, a high ranking division scorer, a high ranking goalkeeper, returning injury reservists, and most of all the return of the "Master of the Diving Header", Chris Gat. In the other corner lay Vancouver Firefighters. Journeymen of the sport. Veterans of the Vancouver Metro League, these warriors seek to spend the remainder of their competitive career not going silently into the night. In addition to that, they were able to stifle us in our last encounter, resulting in a tie.

First off, the field was in tawdry condition. However, the field and its water hazards called it down the middle. No favouritism, each team received equal punishment. Despite these conditions, within time DSBH would adapt, or at least pretend they did. Upon doing so, the scoring would commence. Offensive touches came as often as raindrops that day. The only question was whether the ball would get into the net by lucky bounce or by sheer force. Leading our boys in the offensive yet again, Andrew Fleming. Not once, not twice, but thrice would he score. A hat trick. A term we dearly miss hearing about up here in the north. Further padding of the scoreboard came in the way of a healthy (finally) Dom. His goal was funny to say the least. Dom drove towards the net, gets tackled, and is lying on the ground. However, due to the field conditions, the ball lay motion less at the top of the box. Dom and his defender down. The Firefighter goalie undecided as to whether he should approach the ball. The decision came too late as Dom rose to regain possession of the ball and knock it in. By the last quarter, we had a comfortable enough lead whereby Dan was able to play out as a forward. In this rare occasion, not only did he run his heart out, he scored as well. Good lord, what have we done.

The defensive end of DSBH remained solid as ever. Solid mid-field play by Graham and Elliot ended most attempts of an offensive drive by the Firefighters. Furthermore, with the addition of Gat, the defenders' strength increased tenfold. As indicated above, Dan was moved out to striker. To fill the void was none other than our very own Jon Ho. In baseball terms, he was our closer. An excellent one at that. Not only did he maintain the clean sheet established by Dan, but, he made a crucial save. This was off of a direct kick. Vancouver Firefighters launch the ball. Gat instinctually heads the ball. Jonny, adjusts his airial positioning and with a light tap knocks the ball over the crossbeam. Dan earned his 3rd clean sheet, while Jon garnered his 1st clean sheet of the season aswell as a 0.00 G.A.A.

With the conclusion of the game, the score was left at,

FC DSBH - 5

Vancouver Firefighters - 0

Not a bad way to start the second half of the season, no?

So until February 6, 2005 when DSBH faces the Haywood Hawks . . .

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .
