A Long Overdue Update

Hello fans and non-fans alike. Several games have passed (3 actually) and no news from me. I know, I suck. So let's start shall we?

Game #2: FC DSBH vs Fury (Sept. 19)

On this day we played one of the two new expansion clubs of Division Two (the other being Vancouver Firefighters). Expansion because the division previously had only ten teams, as opposed to the present season which includes twelve teams in total. According to reports, Fury comprises of a former youth soccer team that has graduated to men's league play. Much in the same vein as WR Strikers and JP Malone's. So the factors going for them are youth and their familiarity with each other. The only fallback on paper being their inexperience with the league.

After 90 minutes of regulation and subsequent injury time, the final score was,

FC DSBH 1 - Fury 3

While new to league play, Fury seems to be adapting into this older level of soccer. A feat that translates into their current dominance of Division Two.

Game #3: FC DSBH vs WR Strikers (Sept. 26)

Another graduated youth team, WR Strikers consist of young players. However, like us, this club is in their third season in the RSSL Division Two. Previous matches have been fairly even. A toss-up can be made on who will win depending upon who establishes dominance early on and who makes that one fatal error that determines the outcome. This too proved to be a close game where Dan earned his first shutout of the season and Matt scored his first goal of the season by knocking one in off a rebound.

RSSL League Cup Round 1: FC DSBH vs Club Inter (Oct. 3)

Opening round of the League Cup. The league tournament where teams from all divisions are entered and have equal opportunity to win the Cup. Their fate laid upon their draw and from then on, survival for the fittest.

In previous outings, FC DSBH had not fared well. Pieces were there for a positive outcome, but, nothing guiding it or focusing its individual attributes into a wholly functioning machine. After two seasons of tribulation, a new team has emerged from the ashes of FC DSBH. An analysis of the remaining roster and a reassignment of certain roles. Slow addition of new talent to fill vacancies in our system. A singular focus and system guiding this team. The culmination of this work resulting in the club's first victory in the League Cup.

Also of note, this victory coincided with Dom breaking his current scoring drought by knocking in two goals.

Ex-DSBHers:

Tim & Marcel seem to be excelling with their new club, EAC Athletico, in Burnaby Men's Soccer. Their club, consisting of fellow EA employees, is dominating Division: C Defender. To think we actually tied with them in a pre-season friendly. I wish them continued success. Hopefully, I'll get to see Marcel perform some karaoke hip hop.

Newitt, previously listed as a top scorer in Division Two with the Rangers, is now among the top goalkeepers in our division. Is there no stopping the Newitt?

I hope everyone's enjoying their holiday break from league play this long weekend and Happy Thanksgiving. Unless you're in the United States, then Happy Columbus Day. However, if you're not from around these parts, then happy normal day to you. I understand the Europeans celebrate this season as the time that they got rid of their excess population. Of course, if you are a descendant of the native inhabitants of the Americas, then it's not that celebratory at all. Either way, try to enjoy yourselves. But not to the point that it endangers you and/or anyone else.

Go DSBH, Yeowwwwww . . .
